Home ? technology ? NEC Promotes Global Expansion of Solutions using Smart Devices

July 30, 2012 3:03 pm

NEC Corporation is seeking to globally expand the availability of its "smart device" solutions that help businesses utilize devices such as smartphones and tablets to strengthen their business, improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

NEC will initially concentrate on the promotion of four leading solutions, mostly in Asia, that include mobile business support systems and inventory management systems specialized for local business practices and customer needs. Furthermore, NEC aims to provide these solutions as cloud services from FY2013.

1. Mobile Sales Force Automation

? Improves the efficiency of business management operations outside of the office by enabling business information to be easily entered into smart devices that formerly required written work.

? The entry of product information into smart devices enables accurate analysis of a wide range of data in real time, including sales, delivery and inventory information.

? Smart device solutions connected to systems at the head office enable sales managers, etc. to quickly update performance data, even before returning from a trip.

2. Inventory Tracking System

? Enables head offices to centrally monitor shop conditions while sales people use their smart devices to record product prices, inventories, etc.

? Assists with the strategy of setting prices for retail inventory as well as the timely creation of effective sales policies.

3. Customer Management

? Enables the introduction of products and services and the management of customer information to be shared through smart devices.

? Contributes to improved customer service and increased sales through the use of tablets to display sales tools, such as catalogues etc., and to make store and product recommendations based on customers? purchase histories, etc.

4. SMS Notification (Delivery Request System)

? Specialized SMS (Short Message Service) for delivery companies and retail businesses, for example, enable rapid processing of customers? delivery requests made by phone by automatically sending an SMS notification to a driver?s smart device.

? Drivers may also contact the head office by SMS to confirm the status of an order or the receipt of a package, etc.

NEC is also considering the expansion of its solution menu to include services such as building inspections, asset management, market research, financial instruments and credit checks.

Going forward, NEC will continue to leverage its know-how in providing innovative solutions for a wide range of industries and to capitalize on the services, devices, consulting and system integration of the NEC Group in order to reinforce competitiveness and operational efficiency.

Romney comments at fundraiser outrage Palestinians

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Mitt Romney told Jewish donors Monday that their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the Palestinians, outraging Palestinian leaders who suggested his comments were racist and out of touch with the realities of the Middle East. His campaign later said his remarks were mischaracterized.

"As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality," the Republican presidential candidate told about 40 wealthy donors who ate breakfast at the luxurious King David Hotel.

Romney said some economic histories have theorized that "culture makes all the difference."

"And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things," Romney said, citing an innovative business climate, the Jewish history of thriving in difficult circumstances and the "hand of providence." He said similar disparity exists between neighboring countries, like Mexico and the United States.

Palestinian reaction to Romney was swift and pointed.

"It is a racist statement and this man doesn't realize that the Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli occupation," said Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

"It seems to me this man lacks information, knowledge, vision and understanding of this region and its people," Erekat added. "He also lacks knowledge about the Israelis themselves. I have not heard any Israeli official speak about cultural superiority."

As criticism mounted while Romney traveled to Poland, campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said: "His comments were grossly mischaracterized." The Republican's campaign contends Romney's comparison of countries that are close to each other and have wide income disparities ? the U.S. and Mexico, Chile and Ecuador ? shows his comments were broader than just the comparison between Israel and Palestine.

While speaking to U.S. audiences, Romney often highlights culture as a key to economic success and emphasizes the power of the American entrepreneurial spirit compared to the values of other countries. But his decision to highlight cultural differences in a region where such differences have helped fuel violence for generations raises new questions about the former businessman's diplomacy skills.

As he has at home, Romney in Jerusalem cited a book titled, "Guns, Germs and Steel," that suggests the physical characteristics of the land account for the differences in the success of the people that live there.

"And you look at Israel and you say you have a hard time suggesting that all of the natural resources on the land could account for all the accomplishment of the people here," Romney said, before citing another book, "The Wealth and Poverty of Nations," by former Harvard professor David Landes.

This book, Romney said in Jerusalem, concludes that "if you could learn anything from the economic history of the world it's this: Culture makes all the difference. Culture makes all the difference."

The economic disparity between the Israelis and the Palestinians is actually much greater than Romney stated. Israel had a per capita gross domestic product of about $31,000 in 2011, while the West Bank and Gaza had a per capita GDP of just over $1,500, according to the World Bank.

Romney, seated next to billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson at the head of the table, told donors that he had read books and relied on his own business experience to understand why the difference is so great.

His comparison of the two economies did not take into account the stifling effect the Israeli occupation has had on the Palestinian economy in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem ? areas Israel captured in 1967 where the Palestinians hope to establish a state.

In the West Bank, Palestinians have only limited self-rule. Israel controls all border crossings in and out of the territory, and continues to restrict Palestinian trade and movement. Israel annexed east Jerusalem in 1967, but has invested much less heavily there than in Jewish west Jerusalem.

And although Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, it continues to control access and has enforced a crippling border blockade since the Islamic militant Hamas seized the territory in 2007.

It's true that Israel has logged tremendous achievements, said Abraham Diskin, a political science professor at the Inter-Disciplinary Center outside of Tel Aviv. But "you can understand this remark in several ways," he added. "You can say it's anti-Semitic. 'Jews and money.'"

The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund repeatedly have said that the Palestinian economy can only grow if Israel lifts those restrictions.

"It's Israeli occupiers and Palestinians under occupation, and that's why Palestinians cannot realize their potential," Erekat said.

The breakfast with top donors ? including Adelson, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and hedge fund manager Paul Singer ? concluded Romney's visit to Israel, the second leg of a three-nation overseas tour designed to bolster his foreign policy credentials.

Standing on Israeli soil for the first time as the GOP's presumptive presidential nominee, Romney on Sunday declared Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel and said the U.S. has promised never to "look away from our passion and commitment to Israel."

The status of Jerusalem is a critical issue in peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

In Israel, Romney did not meet with Abbas or visit the West Bank. He met briefly with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

Romney's campaign says the trip, which began in England last week, is aimed at improving the former Massachusetts governor's foreign policy experience through a series of meetings with foreign leaders. The candidate has largely avoided direct criticism of U.S. President Barack Obama while on foreign soil.

The Jerusalem fundraiser, however, was a political event that raised more than $1 million for Romney's campaign. It marks at least the second finance event during his tour. The first, in London, attracted about 250 people to a $2,500-per-person fundraiser.

Both presidential candidates have aggressively courted American donors living abroad, a practice that is legal and has been used for decades.

Romney's declaration that Jerusalem is Israel's capital was in keeping with claims made by Israeli governments for decades, even though the United States, like other nations, maintains its embassy in Tel Aviv.

His remarks on the subject during a speech drew a standing ovation from the audience, which included Adelson, the American businessman who has promised to donate more than $100 million to help defeat Obama.

Adelson was among a several donors who flew to Israel for a day of sightseeing with Romney in addition to private meetings with top Israeli officials.

Romney flew to the Middle East from Britain, where he caused a stir by questioning whether officials there were fully prepared for the Olympic Games. A stop in Poland will complete his trip.

Four years ago, Obama visited Israel as a presidential candidate, part of a five-nation trip meant to establish his own foreign policy credentials.

A goal of Romney's overseas trip is to demonstrate his confidence on the world stage, but the stop in Israel also was designed to appeal to evangelical voters at home and cut into Obama's support among Jewish voters and donors. A Gallup survey of Jewish voters released Friday showed Obama with a 68-25 edge over Romney.

Romney and other Republicans have said Obama is insufficiently supportive of Israel.

Rising Sun stands tall with Chinese sport icons

Posted on July 30, 2012, Monday

giant killer: China?s Sun Yang celebrates winning gold in the men?s 400m freestyle final at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Aquatics Centre. ? Reuters photo

LONDON: Sun Yang can stand tall alongside national sports heroes Liu Xiang and Yao Ming after becoming the first Chinese men?s Olympic swimming champion on Saturday.

The 20-year-old had tears in his eyes after he surged home to win the 400-metres freestyle gold medal and dethrone South Korean Olympic defending champion Park Tae-Hwan.

Sun is aleady the world champion and world record holder in the 1500m freestyle, but it was his breakthrough victory in the 400m event at the Olympics that will enshrine him among China?s sporting greats.

He is at the vanguard of China?s growing supremacy in the pool and underlined his development under Australian taskmaster Denis Cotterell, who moulded Grant Hackett into an Olympic and world distance champion.

Sun went into the London Olympics as the world number one in the 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle and only four years ago he finished eighth behind Tunisian Oussama Mellouli in the Beijing 1500m final.

Last year Sun smashed Hackett?s decade-old 1500m record at the world championships in Shanghai in 14min 34.14sec and was only 0.07secs off the world record in Saturday?s 400m win.

?In the past, not only was I hoping I would be on the podium, the Chinese people did so too, so I was impatient to get on the podium,? Sun said.

?Today, if I cry, it is because I have worked really hard in the last year, getting up early and training until late, so this make?s it all worth while.

?I am very delighted to get this medal, I felt I learned all the lessons from Shanghai (worlds).

?My coach is not well and will have surgery after we get back from these games, so it is also good to give him a boost and it was great for my family.?

Sun toughened up under Cotterell?s tutelage in Australia in the leadup to the Olympics.

?It?s not that difficult. Where a swimmer comes from doesn?t matter. They all work hard and I want anyone I coach, wherever they come from, to have success,? Cotterell said.

Sun now ranks along with hurdler Liu and basketball star Yao as sporting superstars in the world?s most populous nation of 1.3 billion people.

China has closed the gap on the traditional swimming powers and finished second behind the United States in the world championships medal table last year.

Park was reinstated to Saturday?s final on appeal after being disqualified for a false start in winning his morning heat.

?I think if he (Park) hadn?t come to the final and I had got the gold, I think the Korean media would have said it wasn?t rewarding,? Sun said.

?When he was in the final, it was a good challenge for me.? ? AFP

I Tried To Stop A Guy From Stealing My Date' s ... - Business Insider

A distressing and painful tale from the Wall Street Journal's Rolfe Winkler...

He and his date were riding a New York subway in Brooklyn. Just before the doors closed at a stop, some guy grabbed his date's iPad and took off out of the car.

Winkler chased the guy--only to get clobbered by an assistant on the platform. He ended up with a broken jaw.

Thus starts Winkler's story about the rise in "iCrime"--muggers stealing iPhones, iPads, and other "smart" devices and then selling them in secondary markets.

The cops call it "Apple picking." The devices are so valuable and easy to fence these days that the industry is booming.? There were 26,000 "incidents" of this in New York in the first 10 months of last year, the vast majority of which involved smartphones.

A "secondhand" iPhone can apparently fetch $400 once it has been wiped clean.? Many of them are shipped overseas, where new iPhones can cost $1,000.

Earlier this year, a man in the Bronx was shot dead for his iPhone. A guy in Denver had part of his finger ripped off when thieves ripped an Apple Store bag out of his hands. Rolfe Winkler had to drink through a straw for a month.

The way to prevent this is to make the stolen devices worthless (or close), so carriers are discussing the idea of giving each device a unique ID that can only be used by the owner. To prevent stolen devices from being used on WiFi, meanwhile, it might be possible to allow users (or the manufacturers) to remotely bork the devices if they are stolen--sort of like cancelling a stolen credit card.

(This solution reminds me of the solution to the wave of car-radio theft that hit cities in the 1980s. Walking around the streets of New York in those days, you'd see car windows smashed all over the place. One of the first solutions was allowing owners to remove their stereo systems when they left the cars--sliding them out like a book. The more successful and convenient solution, if memory serves, was electronically encoding the devices so they wouldn't function if they were removed from the car.)

In any event, our sympathies to Rolfe Winkler for his broken jaw.? And don't get engrossed in your device on the street or subway, especially when the doors are about to close...

Hiring a Social Media Community Manager | Business 2 Community

Community ManagerIf you?ve been following the tragic shooting in Colorado, you may have seen some of the unfortunate and uninformed corporate tweets that resulted from poor social media management.

Corporate reputations and brands are entrusted to social media community managers daily. Hiring a social media specialist who not only understands the culture of your organization but also understands your company?s place within the broader global context is quickly becoming a business imperative. So where do you start? Consider these key community manager characteristics:

  • Digital Native ? do you have a 50 year-old ad agency executive advising you on social media strategy? Why? That?s the wrong model. You want to seek out a digital native who?s grown up within the current transparency-driven internet culture. A digital native will guide you through the ever changing social internet world.
  • Datahound ? as more and more companies struggle to define social media ROI, you?ll want a data geek who can not only crunch the numbers but also analyze the numbers and identify trends and recommend strategy changes or adjustments.
  • Director ? You want a leader, not an order taker. You?ll need direction on social media campaigns and challenges. You will have an irate customer or a troll who is intent on making your online life miserable and you?ll want to deal with any negative online scenario swiftly and decisively.

Ultimately, the responsibility of vetting and hiring a social media resource will fall on the shoulders on the Director of Marketing or marketing leader within an organization. It?s this person?s responsibility to assure that best person is hired and to inculcate this social media whiz with an understanding of an organization?s culture and how best to express this culture online.

How You Can Enjoy The Great Outdoors With Your Family And ...

It is perfectly normal to set a budget for your overall camping trip. Sit down and make a plan of what you must spend on your entire trip. Make sure you factor in the campground costs, gasoline prices as well as food and any other materials you will need to purchase. This will ensure that you don?t spend more than you have on your trip.

Bugs do not like fire at all, so it is a good idea to keep your fire burning all night while you are sleeping. If you find that there is a huge bug problem during the day, it would help to keep a fire burning at that time as well.

While it is not a good idea to be wasteful, make sure to bring more food and water than you think you need. You do not want to get out intro the middle of the woods and run out of supplies. bringing more than enough will ensure you do not run across this issue.

When you are camping, a necessity for your gear is a survival knife. This is the most important part of your camping gear. Buy a high quality survival knife, not just the cheapest you can find, your life may depend on it. These knives are all very similar; they have a long blade serrated on one side and a hollow handle. Inside the handle you can carry fishing line, hooks, a compass, and matches as a small survival kit.

Part of the fun of camping is cooking over an open fire or on a camp stove. To make sure you don?t forget to pack any key ingredients, make a list of the meals you plan on preparing. Don?t forget to take a small cutting board along with you so you have a clean surface for food preparation. Also remember to pack a couple of potholder or oven mitts to handle hot utensils, such as marshmallow forks.

Never park your vehicle under a single tree when you are at a campsite. If there is a storm, it will attract lightening. This also means that you should avoid sleeping under any trees that are in a particular area by themselves. Try to be in an area that is free of trees or one that has many.

Take something to entertain yourself when you have some downtime. Bring some board games for the whole family, or bring a book in case you wake up before everyone else. This is a good idea so that you know you are entertained throughout your entire trip and there isn?t a dull moment.

Know the climate of your camping area. You will want to have the proper clothing packed for the trip. Knowing how cold the nights get or how hot the days are will help you dress best. You will not want to get caught in the great outdoors with inadequate protection.

Hopefully after reading the advice in this article, you have a clearer idea of where to set up your next camping spot. Remember, where you choose to set up camp can be the factor that determines if your trip will be fun or not, so choose wisely and prepare for the experience of a lifetime.

Boca Raton Home Staging FAQ's-Yes Virginia,They Do Look in ...

Boca Raton Home Staging FAQ?s-Yes Virginia, They Do Look in Garages!

When I?m providing a Staging Consultation whether it?s in Boca, Delray or Boynton Beach ?I am often greeted with a look of disbelief when I break the garagebad news to them that Buyers do look in your garage.

You see, the garage is indeed part of what the buyer is buying and they need/want to see what it is they?re buying. ?The operative word here is ?SEE?. ?

Because we don?t have basements in Florida, storage space is even more important. ?

If your garage is only navigable with a GPS and hip boots then Buyers will assume that your property lacks adequate storage space. ??Just as your space is cluttered, the buyer?s mind sees a lot of ?stuff? and ?all of this ?stuff? prevents them from seeing your 2 or 3 car garage.

What You Can Do:

1. Gather your friends, family or neighbors for help and moral support. ?Have large heavy duty trash bags and large plastic storage tubs available.

boxes

2. Make 4 piles : ?Trash

???????? ??Donate
????????? ?Pack it up to go to your new home.

?????????? Items you need until you move.

3. CLEAN- sweep, pressure clean, paint. ?Just because it?s a garage doesn?t mean that it doesn?t want to look good. Your local home improvement store will have information on how to get rid of those oil stains

4. Organize-for items that you?ll need until you move make sure they?re stored neatly off to the side. ?

Remember.... Buyers will look in your garage and they will need to see that it can hold 2 or 3 cars as the MLS says.

Simmering Science: Can Your House's Color Reduce Your Summer Energy Bill?

TOO DARN HOT!: In this activity, you'll find you can beat the heat with a change of color. Image: George Retseck

Key concepts
Light
Energy
Heat
Colors
Absorption
Reflectivity

Introduction
Have you ever wondered if changing the color of your house does anything other than alter its appearance? Could it also be doing something as practical as influencing how much money is spent on energy bills? On hot summer days, people consume a lot of energy to keep their houses cool. If less energy could be used to do this, not only would it save people money, it might also help the environment by decreasing the amount of energy we use! In this activity, you will test which colors may keep a house from getting quite as hot. Maybe you'll even find a good color to repaint your home!

Background
How does the color of your house affect the temperature inside? To answer this question, think about the clothes that you would wear on a hot, sunny day. Would you rather wear a light-colored shirt or a dark one? You'd probably get much warmer in a dark shirt compared with a light one. This is because the lighter shirt reflects more light than the darker one, which absorbs much more light, or energy, warming up the shirt. It then transfers the heat to your body, warming you more than the light-colored shirt would. The house color works on the same principle.

Materials
???? Black, white and gray construction paper
???? Scissors
???? Three cardboard boxes, all the same size.? For example, this could be three shoe boxes or three cereal boxes
???? Rubber cement
???? Thermometer
???? A sunny spot outside on a hot day

Preparation
???? Carefully cut the white construction paper into pieces so that it can cover the entire surface of one of the cardboard boxes.
???? Use the rubber cement to attach the paper to the box, attaching the paper as smoothly as possible so that there are no air pockets between the paper and the box below it.
???? Just as you did with the white box, attach the gray and black construction paper, cementing each color on one of the other two boxes. You should now have a white box, a gray box, and a black box.

Procedure
???? Put the thermometer in the white box, close it, and take it outside.
???? Place the white box in the sunny spot you picked. Leave it there for 30 minutes.
???? After 30 minutes, open the box and quickly read the temperature on the thermometer. How hot was it inside the box?
???? Put the thermometer in the shade somewhere near the box (still outside). After it has adjusted to the shade, read the temperature. How hot was it in the shade?
???? Repeat these steps with the gray and black boxes, separately. How hot was it inside the gray and black boxes after 30 minutes? How did the temperature in the boxes compare with the temperature in the shade nearby?
???? Which box was the hottest after 30 minutes, and which was the coolest? How did their temperatures compare with the temperatures in the shade?
???? Tip: Try to test all three boxes in the same cloud conditions. For example, try to test them all when it is sunny for the 30 minutes or test them all when it is partly cloudy for the 30 minutes. If cloud conditions change while testing one of the boxes, try retesting it again later during similar conditions.
???? Extra: How does a house's color affect how warm it stays during the winter? You can investigate this by repeating this activity but this time test the boxes on top of a tray of ice (covered with a white plastic bag to keep the boxes dry). Which color box stays the warmest in winterlike conditions?
???? Extra: What about colors other than black, white and gray? To more closely mimic a real house you can repeat this activity, but instead of using construction paper, paint the boxes different colors. Most major paint manufacturers can tell you the light reflectance value (LRV) of any color paint. For example, white usually reflects 80 percent of the light that shines on it whereas for black it is 5 percent. Conduct your test for a series of colors with different LRV values. How does the temperature change with the paint color's LRV?
???? Extra: House color is only one aspect of house design. Does the material you choose on the outside of your house make a difference? In this activity you used a box wrapped in paper material to simulate a painted house. What about real materials used to cover houses? Sprints final countdown for Nextel shutdown June 30th, 2013

Sprint has revealed that its aiming to axe Nextel platform in its entirety by June 30th, 2013. The company has already moved well ahead of schedule in deactivating 9,600 IDEN sites -- with a third of those already gone. The company admitted that it's battling with Verizon to coax former Nextel users onto its service, but hopes that since it's got a shiny new Direct Connect platform, the Now Network will be able to keep hold of far more of them than it has done so far.

NASA Moves Old Spacecraft to Track New Mars Rover's Landing

NASA has successfully moved one of its Mars-orbiting spacecraft into a new position to provide prompt confirmation of the upcoming Aug. 5 landing of the new Curiosity rover on the Red Planet.

The 11-year-old?Mars Odyssey probe performed a six-second thruster burn Tuesday (July 24) that nudged it six minutes ahead in its orbit, NASA officials said. The manuever placed Odyssey in a prime spot to receive signals from the Curiosity rover when it streaks toward the Martian surface, and to relay news of the rover's landing back to Earth.

"Information we are receiving indicates the maneuver has completed as planned," Mars Odyssey project manager Gaylon McSmith, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., said in a statement. "Odyssey has been working at Mars longer than any other spacecraft, so it is appropriate that it has a special role in supporting the newest arrival."

Odyssey's comeback

The move marks something of a comeback for Odyssey, which in early June suffered a malfunction on one of its reaction wheels, instruments that help control the probe's orientation in space. The glitch caused Odyssey to go into a precautionary safe mode on July 11, which in turn affected its orbit.

As a result, officials weren't sure whether Odyssey would be in the right spot during the 1-ton Curiosity rover's touchdown. Without the corrective engine burn, Odyssey would have arrived over Curiosity's landing site ? the enormous Gale Crater ? about two minutes after the rover touched down, officials said.

Curiosity, the centerpiece of NASA's $2.5 billion Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, will investigate whether the Gale area is, or ever was, capable of supporting microbial life.

Its landing is inspiring perhaps more nervousness than most other planetary touchdowns. Because Curiosity is so big, MSL engineers had to devise a new landing method for the rover. They settled on a rocket-powered sky crane, which will lower Curiosity to the Martian surface on cables before flying off and intentionally crash-landing a short distance away. [How Curiosity's Nail-Biting Landing Works (Pictures)]

A communications relay

Odyssey is uniquely capable of relaying the landing news in real time. Two other Mars orbiters, NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and the European Space Agency's Mars Express, will receive transmissions from Curiosity's spacecraft, but they'll send the communications along to Earth after a delay of several hours, officials said.

And Earth will set below the Martian horizon before Curiosity touches down, meaning the MSL spacecraft won't be able to beam signals home directly.

The upshot of Odyssey's successful maneuver is that the Curiosity team should learn of the landing's outcome by 10:31 p.m. Pacific time Aug. 5 (1:31 a.m. Eastern time Aug. 6).

Odyssey began science operations in February 2002, and it has now worked at Mars longer than any other mission in history. The probe created the first global maps of chemical and mineral distribution on Mars, and its observations led to the discovery of vast amounts of water ice buried under the planet's surface.

The spacecraft has also served as a communications relay station for NASA's Spirit and Opportunity rovers and the Phoenix lander.

Improve Your Avon UK Profits | Internet and Email Marketing News

Avon UK success seekers: Want to dominate and build a HUGE business?

If you seek to become a top earner, the way to do it is to implement a promotional plan that puts your message in front of thousands of people ? not merely a handful of friends, family members and people you know.

You MUST learn to market!

Read the rest of this article to learn several strategies top 2% earners are using to build large and lucrative businesses:

- Attract A List And Promote To It

When all?s said and done, building a Avon UK business online entails two activities:

- Attract a list of leads

By list I don?t mean your friends and family. The list that matters the most is the list of prospects you generate through online marketing. Generating Avon UK leads doesn?t come from spamming Twitter, Facebook or another online platform. Leads only buy from those they know, like and trust, so it?s vital you establish this trust..

Teach prospects business-building skills so you position yourself as a credible authority. Building a list means you have a website to which you drive visitors who enter their contact information in order to receive free training content.

- Establish a relationship with and sell to this list

You must stay close to your market, listening to your prospects so you can position offers that meet their business needs. This is an element that?s key but few actually do. Cultivating relationships is what separates the earners from those that never profit. Publish helpful content, such as blog posts and videos, several times per week. Your content establishes you as the authority, and be sure to include a call to action at the end of *every* piece of content.

- Be Consistent

Be very consistent in your efforts to promote Avon UK. Those that are new to marketing are usually not consistent. Instead of working consistently, they tend to work on their business infrequently. When they work, they do different tasks each work session. They will work one week, take a month off, work another week, and never establish a rhythm.

People like this literally never profit in opportunities like Avon UK. Top earners, in contrast, tend to be ruthlessly consistent:

- Every day we work our business (or at least 5 days each week).

- We perform the same revenue-creating tasks daily. Tasks such as attracting leads, connecting with prospects, and closing sales.

- Our time off from the business, such as vacation, is planned in advance, not haphazard.

There are several benefits to being highly consistent in your Avon UK business building efforts:

- Your efficiency will increase as you do tasks repetetively

- Staying in the game on a daily basis will energize your attitude and keep you motivated

- You will seem more credible when you create results regularly and your sales conversion rates will increase

- Speed: It?s easier to build your business quickly rather than slowly. Being consistent grows your business more quickly.

Work your Avon UK business 5-6 days per week. Devote the time and don?t settle for excuses about being too busy.

- Develop Into A Leader

To build a successful Avon UK business, you must be a leader. There?s two ways you learn to lead:

- Modelling: Find other leaders and mimic what they do, believe and think. You?ve got to find leaders you can relate to and build the business like they do.

- Lead things. This is learning through activity, through doing. Hours of reading books and listening to trainings can never replace the benefit of one hour of implementation!

Develop your mentality Your leadership starts with your belief in yourself. Develop the inner strength of mind to overcome all challenges and obstacles to achieve your goals.

There?s going to be people in your downline who quit. You?ve got to persist and never let these people impact your energy or results. Be an example.

Your actions speak louder than words. Each day, do what needs to be done to succeed. Don?t just describe what needs to be done. Do the things you must do. Teach others what to do to succeed. Do not do things for other people, instead show them what to do.

Describe to your Avon UK team what you do every day to create results. Send instructive emails. Support your emerging Avon UK leaders.

Total Recall: Vince Vaughn's Best Movies

We count down the best-reviewed work of the Watch star.

Vince Vaughn

Vegas, martinis, and the words "baby" and "money" helped launch Vince Vaughn's film career -- and helped established him as an extraordinarily compelling cinematic scoundrel, a role he's played repeatedly over the last decade and change. But that isn't all Vaughn can do, as he's proven while assembling an admirably eclectic filmography, moving from comedy to horror to action thrillers and back again, and sharing screens with everyone from Richard Attenborough to Jennifer Lopez in the process. This weekend, however, Vaughn's back in his comedically caddish wheelhouse with The Watch, and to celebrate, we decided to revisit his best-reviewed films, Total Recall style!

As always, we let the Tomatometer do the sorting for us, and although it did the easy work, tossing out the obvious rotten flicks (bye bye, Couples Retreat), we still had to make a few judgment calls on roles that, though memorable, still amounted to cameos (adieu, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Into the Wild, and Anchorman). What we were finally left with was a list that we think captures the breadth of Vaughn's filmography while limiting it to the movies that gave him a healthy amount of screentime. And with that, let's dispense with the formalities and get down to the films, shall we? Ladies and gents, the best of Vince Vaughn!

52%

Vaughn's first major role came in Swingers, a film with a budget of $250,000. His next movie was a bit of a step up: 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park boasted a $73 million bankroll, not to mention Steven Spielberg in the director's chair and a cast including such famous names as Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, and Lord Richard Attenborough. Of course, Lost World wasn't greeted with quite the same critical reception enjoyed by Swingers, but on the other hand, it did make over $600 million at the box office -- and it featured dozens of awesome-looking CGI dinosaurs, which makes up for any critical brickbats, or the fact that Vaughn's character is a knuckleheaded environmentalist who's more concerned about saving giant carnivores than his own traveling companions. Looking Closers' Jeffrey Overstreet summed it all up succinctly when he wrote, "If you liked Jurassic Park, you'll probably like this one a little less. What the first film did poorly, this film does worse."

54%

Based on Michael Grant Jaffe's novel Dance Real Slow, 1998's A Cool, Dry Place broke Vaughn's string of rapscallions and ne'er-do-wells and gave him the first thoroughly sympathetic role of his career: Russell Durrell, a young lawyer struggling through single fatherhood after his wife (Monica Potter) abandons him and their five-year-old son (Bobby Moat). Despite a cast that also included Joey Lauren Adams, Place barely squeaked its way into theaters, grossing a few thousand dollars during a one-week run -- and though many critics rolled their eyes at the film's leisurely pace and heavy melodrama (Filmcritic's Christopher Null accused the plot of "just [sitting] there like a stuffed monkey"), they were matched by scribes such as Sandra Contreras of TV Guide, who wrote, "Its heart is in the right place, but this sweet drama just doesn't build enough true drama from its slender premise. That said, it's not bad enough to merit the kind of stealth release its studio has imposed on it."

60%

After 2000's The Cell, Vaughn was relatively quiet for a few years; although he appeared in a pair of major releases (Domestic Disturbance and Made, both released in 2001), he spent much of his time in films whose appeal was more, uh, selective (The Prime Gig, I Love Your Work). It took another testosterone-heavy ensemble comedy to remind audiences what made the Swingers star famous -- and okay, so Old School ended up being stolen by Will Ferrell, but Vaughn got his share of laughs, too, and it foreshadowed his funny roles in Anchorman and Starsky & Hutch. A not inconsiderable number of critics dismissed Old School's raunchy lowbrow humor, but the majority agreed with Cinerina's Karina Montgomery, who gasped, "I can't believe it, but I want to see it again."

63%

After making a splash with Swingers, Vaughn hit the ground running, booking roles in several years' worth of big-budget productions, including 1997's Jurassic Park sequel, The Lost World, and the costly Jennifer Lopez flop The Cell. Between the tentpoles, however, Vaughn hadn't lost his taste for the odd lower-profile project -- like Clay Pigeons, a Ridley Scott-produced black comedy about a drifter (Vaughn) who uses his imagined friendship with a casual acquaintance (Joaquin Phoenix) as the impetus for a homicidal, Throw Momma from the Train-style "favor." Playing a charming, murderous lunatic helped prep Vaughn for the starring role in Gus Van Sant's Psycho remake -- and while Pigeons didn't make much of an impression at the box office, it earned the admiration of critics like the Palo Alto Weekly's Jeanne Aufmuth, who wrote, "This is not your classic whodunit. It's blacker, funnier, and edgier."

64%

The overlap on the Venn diagram between Dodgeball and Wedding Crashers, 2004's Starsky & Hutch stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the titular detectives -- and Vaughn as Reese Feldman, the bar mitzvah-throwing drug kingpin who's responsible for pushing a new, untraceable form of cocaine. While a number of critics were turned off by the way the movie enthusiastically embraced its cheesy television roots, for most, it was too goofily good-natured to resist -- right down to Snoop Dogg's appearance as the streetwise police informant known as Huggy Bear. It is, wrote Ann Hornaday of the Washington Post, "A really good not-great movie, the kind that would be classified as a guilty pleasure were it not executed with guilt-free honesty and good nature."

Reducing Stress By Growing A Home Garden | Gardening

It can be relaxing to garden, and it doesn?t require plenty of money. Ask your friends and family to keep you company in the garden. If you have children, they will be awe-struck by how seeds transform into colorful flowers and tasty vegetables. Gardening can also help appreciate outdoor life and nature. By reading this article, you will learn some tips which will make enjoying your garden easier. If you?re enjoying gardening, you?re more apt to invite others to join you in the activity.

A great tip to implement when gardening is to plant only what you enjoy to eat. This reduces your grocery bills and allows you to use everything you grow. Do not grow foods that the family will not consume, especially if you do not have the room for it.

Try using chicken tractors to fertilize your garden area. Though not widely recognized, chicken tractors are essentially coops that are transient, comprised of a floor that is open and another area that is sheltered. Using this tractor, chickens can eat bugs and vegetation and fertilize the area at the same time. The chicken tractor will then be easily be moved to new areas as needed.

To create a beautiful English garden, use the same bed to mix various kinds of plants, as well as different heights. Using plants of all the same kind or size, can result in a boring, and unoriginal garden.

Use annuals and biennials to enliven your flower beds. These biennials and annuals are fast-growing, and they allow you to brighten up your flower bed with a change for each season. You can fill any spaces between shrubs and perennials when they are in the sun. A variety of flowers that will thrive in your region are available.

The first thing you can do to ward off garden pests is to ensure you are using healthy soil in your garden. Healthier plants are stronger, which in turn can help the plants you grow to become more resistant to disease and bugs that can harm them. For the most vigorous and healthy plants, start with high-quality soil, and stay away from chemicals. These can accumulate salts over time.

As the weather turns colder, it is important to prepare your sensitive shrubs for the change. Shrubs in pots especially need special care in the colder weather. Tie together the tops, and then use a sheet or blanket to cover the wigwam loosely. Doing this is a lot more effective than wrapping up the plant with plastic because it lets air circulate, which could avoid any rotting.

An eye-catching plant makes an attractive focal point for your garden or flowerbed. When you design your garden, think of a great focal point that will grab attention and add interest. A perfect example of a focal point is using a plant that doesn?t bear any resemblance to those that surround it.

Make sure any open cuts are completely protected from dirt and chemicals before you go to work in your garden. A cut can become infected if dirt is allowed to enter the cut while gardening. It is possible now to get bandages that will completely seal the cut.

You need water for a healthy garden. Just like people. plants need water in order to survive. On a day that is really hot, the soil will become more dry, so a person has to make sure they are keeping the garden watered. With sufficient watering, a garden will thrive.

Try ?boiling? weeds to get rid of them. Any vessel of boiling water that you can carry safely can be used as an organic herbicide. Make sure to pour only on the weeds and to stay away from healthy vegetation. If you pour the water near your plants, it will kill the roots.

Tempt your cat away from the plants he has been bothering by planting catnip or wheat grass near them. You could also repel your pet by planting rosemary or placing citrus fruit peels around your garden.

Plant dwarf fruit trees in small gardens. Many areas only allow for small gardens, and that is where dwarf fruit trees fit in best. These trees will begin to bear fruit after five years and eventually produce fruit that is full sized. The best time to plant dormant trees is early spring; water them well until the roots have taken hold.

Whether you wish to garden alone or with a loved one, the tips in this article will make the experience more fun. Using this advice, you can enjoy gardening with yourself, your friends, or your family.

Conservationists are reluctantly experimenting with three forms of triage to help them decide which species to try to save or not save. Each method has different priorities: "Function first" favors species that perform a unique job in nature. "Evolution first" seeks to preserve genetic diversity. At Home in Vermont: Family, Food and Familiar Places (Part 1 ...

Vermont road

I grew up on this? road in Vermont.

I?ll bet you can tell that I?m not in California today.? Instead I?m in my home state, Vermont.?? This is the road that runs past the house where I grew up, where my mother still lives.? It? feels like home to me. ? See that mountain off in the distance? That?s Camel?s Hump, a landmark that most Vermonters will recognize.? It is much smaller in this photo than it appears in real life. During my growing-up? years we had an unobstructed view of Camel?s Hump and the horizon where the sun sets every evening.? We used call the family into the living room to? gather in front of the picture window: ?Come see the sunset!? ?? Since the trees have grown on the ridge we have to walk to the top of the hill to see the sunset in the summertime when there are leaves on those trees, and the walk is worth it!

Vermonters who live within sight of Camel?s Hump have a special bond with the mountain.?? We are east of the Camel?s Hump, so we see it with the hump on the left.? People who live over in the Champlain Valley are west of it, so they think the hump belongs on the right.? Artists paint or photograph that mountain both ways,? but if you live in Central Vermont,? you probably wouldn?t want a picture of it from the other direction.? Everyone knows that someone tried to name the mountain ?Crouching Lion?,? but we?re glad they didn?t.

Camel's Hump in Vermont

This is our side of Camel?s Hump?with the hump on the left.

Conversation in Central Vermont usually begins and ends with the weather.? Summertime can be hot and humid, but my first several days here have been absolutely perfect.

Green Mountains of Vermont

The Green Mountains of Vermont are usually blue!

Yesterday I drove down to the capital city,? Montpelier, for the well known Capital City? Farmer?s Market.? It was a perfect day, and lots of people were out on the sidewalks,? visiting with friends they might happen to meet,? everyone? reveling in the perfect day.

Montpelier Farmers' Market

Beautiful vegetables, plants, meats, baked goods, tee shirts, ethnic foods, artisan soaps, handmade art tiles, jewelry, granola, cheese, etc.

I was surprised to discover that artisan liquors were also represented at the Capital City Farmers? Market!? With free samples!? If my dad was still alive, he would heartily approve!? I tasted both the Elder Flower Rum and the Maple Rum at Dunc?s Mill.? Of course, I had to bring home some of that maple rum!? Thinking about maple rum cake, maple rum glazed chicken and maybe a chocolate maple rum sauce!

?

?

I couldn?t resist buying some old fashioned peas, as they remind me of my father?s garden and my grandmother?s? summer visits with our family.?? We would sit in a circle around a bag for the pea pods,? and shell the peas into a metal pan.? You could hear the peas hit the bottom of the pan with a beautiful percussive tone.? Sometimes a few peas would hit the floor, and my grandmother would have us all in delicious hysterics as she declared, ?Oops, someone just pea-ed on the floor!?

When I come to visit my mother,? I have to plan a few surprises.?? She really loves to have her family visit and anticipates some culinary creativity.?? Certain family members are known for their specialties, like chocolate chip cookies or apple pie.??? Mom especially likes my scallops.? I dust them with Progresso Italian Bread Crumbs and sautee them in butter.? This time I wilted some spinach in the pan after the scallops were done.

We added a few shrimp too!

One of my surprises for Mom this year is a ? breakfast? parfait made with Uncle Sam Original Cereal,? berries and Cabot Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt.?? It?s a nice treat first thing in the morning!

Our special breakfast parfait ingredients!

The Cabot Coop, well known for their Vermont cheddar cheese, is only a short drive from our home.? Their Greek yogurt isn?t available in California, so I look forward enjoying more of their products when I?m here.?? The Cabot creamery holds special memories for me, as it is one of the first places I took my husband on his first visit to Vermont. ? I?m hoping to get over there for a tour of the creamery and taste some samples of their newer offerings.??? I have? recently discovered? Uncle Sam cereal and love it!? It?s toasty wheatberry and flax seed? flavor is delicious and adds the perfect crunch to the parfait.? I have to thank Attune Foods,? a sponsor of Camp Blogaway, for sending me samples to try.? It?s my new favorite cereal, and Mom loves it now too!

I always bring along some? avocados from our farm in California.? I bought? fresh cilantro, zucchini, scallions and home grown tomato at the Farmer?s Market, so we had a quinoa salad with chunks of our home grown avocado on top.?? It?s great to be home in Vermont,? sharing California avocados. quinoa salad

A few years ago my brother planted some beautiful gardens for my mother to enjoy in the yard around the house.?? This year the clematis and honeysuckle are especially lovely?in the shade next to the hostas.?? Everything here is green and growing!? Even though the summer sunshine is cherished by Vermonters,? this Vermont native (who lives on a California avocado ranch)? is looking forward to a good old fashioned Vermont thunderstorm!? Stay tuned!
